Buccoo Reef ferry ramp under repairs after rough seas dislodged a beam

Repairs are underway to the ramp of the Buccoo Reef after the locking beam came loose due to rough seas at the Port of Scarborough on Saturday.

In a statement, the Trinidad and Tobago Inter-island Transportation Company Limited said the Buccoo Reef came into Scarborough at 10:06 am on Saturday, and around 10:30 am the ramp locking beam became loose due to rough seas and increased wave action in the harbour due to a cruise vessel berthed at the finger pier.

The operation was stopped and the ramp was lifted to assess the situation.

The company said it was observed that three out of the five locking beam brackets were detached from the locking beam.

A pedestrian ramp was placed on the side of the vessel to allow the remaining walk-off passengers to disembark.

The company said a contractor was engaged to undertake a temporary fix to allow the remaining vehicles to disembark, which took place around 1:05 pm and was completed at 1:20 pm.

The company said repairs are continuing to prevent any further disruption to the service.
