Bandits abandon robbery attempt after victim turns out to be an armed prison officer

Two bandits had to abandon their theft of a car in San Fernando on Tuesday night, when the person they tried to rob was an armed prison officer.

Around 10:12 pm, the 40-year-old prison officer attached to the Maximum Security Prison was sitting in his white Kia Cerato on his phone, while parked at the eastern car park in South Park in San Fernando.

He reported that a white white Toyota Aqua stopped behind his vehicle, and two men with jerseys covering their faces exited.

One suspect approached the front passenger window while the other man went to the driver’s side and pointed a gun at the officer.

The gunman ordered him to exit the vehicle and he complied. As they drove off with the car, the officer fired seven shots at the rear of the car, forcing the suspect to drive onto the concrete median and abandon the officer’s car.

They escaped in the Aqua in which they had arrived.
Police visited the scene and obtained CCTV footage.
