Arson attack in Couva leaves one man dead, three other family members seriously

A 25-year-old man was killed in a fire in Couva this morning, which critically injured his uncle, and left two other family members with severe burns.

Dead is Tyrone Foster, 25.

The incident took place in the HDC settlement of Exchange Lots, Couva before daybreak and police say arson was the cause.

Foster’s uncle, Lester Foster, 52, was burned over 90 percent of his body, while Foster’s mother Lorna, 53, and his girlfriend Layla Ranjitsingh, were also injured.

The family lived at Annand Yankaran Extension, Exchange, Couva.

Police were told that at around 2.45a.m. the arsonists came and barricaded the exits to the house before setting it on fire.

The family tried putting out the flames, and responding fire fighters arrived to find the two storey duplex engulfed in flames.

Three of the victims made it out of the house, but Tyrone Foster was found burnt to death on the living room floor.

Damage to the house was put at $250,000.

Police were told that the family had been threatened on several occasions.
