Chairman of the Sangre-Grande Regional Corporation, Anil Juteram says the Ministry of Works and transport must share some of the blame for the flooding in Sangre Grande yesterday.
Speaking with News Power Now this morning he said he agreed with the Works Minister Rohan Sinanan that one major contributor to the flooding was that persons were building without the requisite permissions from Town and Country.
However he claimed that the Ministry of Works and Transport Drainage Division was also partially to blame.
He told News Power Now that they stand guilty of giving unscrupulous land developers permission to develop land in flood prone areas.
He also claimed that while the corporation is willing to work with the line Minister and are not blaming him directly for the flooding, there needs to be an adjustment made to how the drainage division of the Ministry treats with granting permissions in this area.
He said presently the Corporation is engaged in a mopping up exercise.
He revealed that they are now assessing the damage and needs of persons in the area and trying to provide what’s needed at this time.
