Man killed after shootout with police in Sangre Grande

A 29-year-old Sangre Grande man is dead following a reported shootout with police officers on Wednesday night.

According to reports police officers from the Eastern Division Task Force were on patrol on North Eastern Settlement, Sangre Grande, just after 11.50 pm when they saw two men walking on the road.

On seeing the police vehicle both men began to run.

Officers got out of the car and began to chase the men who jumped over a nearby fence.

One of the men pointed a gun at the officers who returned fire, hitting him.

The other man escaped.

According to ADD NEWS TT, police said the man who was shot was identified as Michael London and was taken to the Sangre Grande General Hospital where he was declared dead.

One revolver was seized.

Investigators said London was known to them as a priority offender.
