Angostura assessing losses after fire in ‘Bitters’ section

Fire officials are set to return to Angostura Limited’s Eastern Main Road, Laventille compound on Saturday to determine the cause of a fire which damaged a portion of the establishment on Friday.

Angostura Limited will also be spending the day assessing property damage and losses.

Officials said the blaze began in what they called the (Angostura) Bitters Blending section of the compound just after 6 pm last evening.

Fire tenders were quick to response and by approximately 6.30 pm, most of the fire had been extinguished and only smoke seen from the building located on the northern part of the compound.

Angostura chairman Terrance Bharath, SC, told media that due to the alcohol content of the tanks, they had to pump foam into the area, so as to avoid the spread of flames to the tanks which contain the alcohol.
