Ameen demands intervention after elderly couple beaten in St Augustine

With crime escalating in St Augustine, MP for the constituency, Khadijah Ameen is demanding immediate intervention from the government.

Her call comes after an elderly couple was beaten by four armed bandits in Dry River Trace, St. Augustine South early on Friday morning. Camera footage shows the men exiting a white vehicle and jumping the wall to enter the property moments before a woman can be heard pleading for mercy.

The St. Augustine MP says she reached out to the Prime Minister, Minister of National Security and Commissioner of Police on multiple occasions this year to discuss crime, yet it continues to fall on deaf ears while citizens are being terrorized.

As recent as July 13, she says a letter was sent to the Commissioner of Police Erla Harewood- Christopher from MP Ameen bringing to her attention the increase in home invasions and requesting a meeting to discuss potential strategies to address the surge in crime.

MP Ameen says she is still eagerly awaiting a response from the Commissioner of Police “as the unaddressed crime situation continues to spiral out of control.” The St. Augustine MP says she is concerned about the safety of constituents as they now live in fear.
