Al Rawi: Country getting value for money from Ministry allocations

The government claims the country is getting value for money from money allocated to the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government.

Line Minister, Faris Al Rawi, told the parliament during the Budget Debate this morning that the Ministry was given 2.85 billion dollars but 2.215 billion dollars was spent.

Minister Al Rawi said there is a better digitalised system tracking how money given to the Ministry is spent detailing every aspect of expenditure.

He claimed this system ensures accountability and provided details on how funding disbursed to the fourteen regional corporations were used.

Mr Al Rawi said the ministry provides jobs for over 6,669 persons across the 17 entities under its purview.

He said with the passage of the public procurement law it brings a level of fairness in the distribution of contracts and expenditure shows this is taking place.

Mr Al Rawi also added the local government reform will bring improved efficiency in the system.
