Agriculture Ministry investigation determines kangaroo receiving standard care and wholesome diet

The Agriculture Ministry says it has conducted an investigation into a Red Kangaroo at the Emperor Valley Zoo which featured in a recent viral social media post that sparked concerns about its health.

The Ministry says the Zoo does not only house animals for public display, but also animals seized by game wardens, rescued from around the country or surrendered by other keepers.

It notes that the kangaroo in question was brought into the Zoo in 2023 with physical issues from another facility.

During the recent investigation, the kangaroo was found to be bright and alert, and was estimated to be between 15 and 20 years old which is consistent with the expected level of muscle loss at that age.

The investigation also found that since the kangaroo was brought to the Zoo, it has been provided with a wholesome diet consistent with standard care.

Furthermore, it’s enclosure was deemed adequate for the animal’s movement and activity, ensuring its well-being.
