No price gouging says supermarket boss

Head of the Supermarket Association, Rajiv Diptee is allaying any fears of price gouging in Trinidad and Tobago.

He told Power 102 FM’s Power Breakfast Show said the saturation of the supermarket industry does not allow for this to take place.

Diptee made the comment in light of the rising transport costs due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

The crisis has driven up the cost of fuel around the world which has led to an increase in shipping and transportation costs which could then in turn affect the price of imported goods.

However, Diptee noted that competition is fierce as COVID restrictions led to a hyper saturation of the industry with businesses converting to supermarkets and shops so they could remain open.

As a result, he believes the huge amount of competition will help to keep prices in check…
