Over 900 persons have been convicted for sexual offences in Trinidad and Tobago between 2013 to 2018.
Attorney General, Faris Al Rawi, made this disclosure in the Senate today.
The AG was at the piloting the Sexual Amendment Offences Bill, 2021.
The AG defended the reasoning behind the government’s decision not to ask for a three fifths majority passage of this law.
However, earlier in her contribution to the bill Opposition Senator, Jayanti Lutchmedial, wanted to know why the ruling administration was adopting its position on the removal of the special majority bill.
Senator Lutchmedial also cited the need for focus to be placed on improving the detection rate and the use of DNA in the nvestigative
process.
