82 Of The 458 Murders To Date In TT Solved , 90 Charged For Homicides

Ninety persons have been charged with murders so far this year.

Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, made the revelation during the Budget Debate in the parliament on Monday.

He said the  number of homicides to date in 2023 is 458.

82 of those murders have been solved.

In addition to murders there have been 572 wounding and shootings with the use of firearms this year.

Last year the murder figure was 602.

Minister Hinds said there has also been an increase in incidents of rapes, incest and other sexual offences as well as fraud offences.

In terms of guns retrieved so far by the police service the number is 521, Minister Hinds told the parliament.

The parliament was told the Fire Service is also getting support from the government with breathing apparatus being provided to all stations and two water rescue vessels have been acquired.
