50-year-old man remanded into custody for sexual offences against minor

A 50-year-old man was denied bail and remanded into custody after appearing before a Chaguanas Magistrate yesterday, charged with sexual offences against a child.

The accused was charged with one count of Sexual Touching of a Child and three counts of Sexual Penetration of a Child, when he appeared before Magistrate Nizam Khan in the Chaguanas First Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday 13th July, 2023.

The matter was adjourned to August 10th, 2023.

A woman reported to police that she became aware that her boyfriend was allegedly having sex with her 12-year-old daughter over a period of time, the last time being in May 2023.
The Child Protection Unit (CPU) was contacted and conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrest of a male suspect.

The accused was charged with the offences following advice received from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, on July 12th, 2023.

Investigations were supervised by W/Supt. Claire Guy-Alleyne, ASP Aroon, W/Insp. Jacob, Insp. Waite, Insp. Hosein and W/Sgt. Cedeno-Figaro, all of CPU.

The accused was charged with the offences by WPC Avion Foster, also of CPU on Wednesday 12th July, 2023.
