50 Cent teases Grand Theft Auto collab

50 Cent has teased an upcoming collaboration with the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

The rap mogul sent fans into a frenzy on Wednesday (March 1) by sharing the logo for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the Miami Vice-inspired video game that dropped in 2002.

In his caption, Fif hinted at working on a television series based on the popular GTA installment, claiming the project would be even bigger than his Power universe on STARZ.

“I will Explain this later, GLG. GreenLightGang,” he wrote cryptically. “this shit bigger than POWER trust me. BOOM.”

Rockstar Games confirmed in February 2022 that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in the works, so it’s also possible 50 Cent could somehow be involved in the long-awaited game.

50’s longtime friend and collaborator, Eminem, came close to starring in a GTA movie following the release of Grand Theft Auto III in 2001.

Kirk Ewing, a friend of GTA creators Sam and Dan Houser, said on the Grandest Game podcast in November: “[The agent] said: ‘Kirk, we’ve got Eminem to star, and it’s a Tony Scott film. $5 million on the nose. Are you interested?’

“And I phoned up Sam and I said: ‘Listen to this. They want Eminem in the Grand Theft Auto movie and Tony Scott to direct.’”

He continued: “And he said: ‘Not interested’ … They realized that the media franchise that they had was bigger than any movie that was going on at the time.”

50 Cent’s other close confidante, Dr. Dre, previously made an appearance in GTA Online: The Contract in 2021 while also contributing new music featuring Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Anderson .Paak, Ty Dolla $ign and the late Nipsey Hussle.

Before Dre was brought in to collaborate with Rockstar, however, he apparently wasn’t aware of the whole Grand Theft Auto experience.

“[Dre] had no idea what [Grand Theft Auto] was about because he’s not a gamer at all,” producer DJ Pooh told Rolling Stone. “He never played them. He was blown away [by] how deep you can get into the whole thing. He’s like, ‘Oh shit!’”
