US$250K donated by CAF to assist with Tobago oil spill cleanup

US$250,000 has been donated by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) to assist with the Tobago oil spill.

According to the bank, the incident has damaged beaches and reefs and has threatened the local tourism industry.

Additionally, in a letter to Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, CAF Executive President Sergio Díaz-Granados said the bank offers all its technical tools to support government in facing the effects of the spill.

The Tobago oil spill last month has seen oil reach as far as the island of Bonaire off the coast of Venezuela.
