UPDATE: AK magazine and ammo seized by Highway Patrol cops

A 32-year-old Point Fortin man who allegedly failed to wear his seatbelt while being the front seat passenger along the southbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway yesterday is now a key suspect into an ammunition possession investigation.

The driver, a 34-year-old man, also of Point Fortin, was arrested and is being questioned by police.

The men were held by police officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch (THPB) in the vicinity of Indian Trail.

According to police reports, at 1.40 pm on March 31st, 2023, THPB police officers were on mobile patrol when they observed the front seat passenger of a black Ford Ranger not wearing his seatbelt while the vehicle was in motion.

Police later signalled for the driver to stop.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the front seat passenger allegedly exited the vehicle and ran east with a black bag in his hands and a foot chase ensued.

The 32-year-old suspect was subsequently held a short distance away where police allegedly found a black plastic bag containing 60 rounds of 5.56 ammunition.

Police later executed a search warrant at another property belonging to the suspect located at the Southern Main Road, Claxton Bay, where they allegedly found an AK magazine and seven rounds of nine millimetre ammunition.
