Kees reflects on Carnival and expresses his feelings to us about his recent Colbert feature

Our unorthodox “Carnival” season has come to an end and it is now Lenten season – a time of fasting and reflection and izzso caught up with Kees Dieffenthaller of Kes the Band to capture his thoughts on the unusual season that just concluded.

Kees was one the few to expand upon the hybrid events, hosting a five night show this year called IzWe that incorporated live and virtual audiences.

Kees said the spirit of Carnival has always shown itself to him and this year, pandemic and all, was no different, from how they created their music, to planning a five night production, to being invited by Etienne Charles to appear on a project by John Batiste, bandleader of The Late Night with Stephen Colbert.

Kees said 2020-2021 has itself been a very reflective period for him and all that happened this season culminated in an amazing way with this experience with Charles, Batiste his team and the Colbert feature.
He said everyone needs that bit of light and the timing of the project allows for everyone to get back to the spirit of who we are.

Kees said he has plans for an amazing year ahead, of new things and innovation.
