Tobago pensioner survives near fatal crash

A pensioner escaped death on Sunday after a bamboo patch saved him from going over a precipice.

Trevor Charles of Mt St George, Tobago, lost control of a vehicle he was driving and crashed through a wooden barrier made of 2×4 rough pitch pine along the Windward Road almost a kilometre east of the Studley Park Quarry.

Charles’ vehicle plunged almost 100 feet down the side of a steep incline but was blocked by a bamboo patch preventing it from going into the sea.

The man was rescued by police and other responders and taken to the Scarborough General Hospital where he remains warded in a stable condition.
