Heerah: TSTT cyber breach raises red flags on need for reinforced cyber security infrastructure

Former head of the National Operations Centre (NOC), Commander Gavin Heerah says he believes that it is about time that focus be placed on the issue of cybersecurity.

He made the comment following yesterday’s Joint Select Committee (JSC) of Parliament which sought to examine TSTT’s management of the cybersecurity breach of data before, during and after its occurrence on October 9, 2023.

Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show this morning Heerah said that the security breach at TSTT should have raised red flags on the need for a reinforced cyber security infrastructure.

He noted the need for laws specifically targeted at catching cyber criminals.

Heerah explained this was needed especially given the use of AI technology and its continued evolution in cyber space.

He said there are very skilled people out there who can maneuver cyber space and AI expertly, so he strongly advocates that there be the setting up of a CARICOM forum to ensure public awareness as AI and its impact continues to evolve.
