Tewarie tells Gov’t: Inject Forex now as short term solution to shortage!

The lack of sufficient US dollars in the country could exacerbate a black market situation in Trinidad and Tobago.

This is according to AMCHAM CEO Nirad Tewarie.

He told the Power Breakfast Show this morning that while this would not be a preferred option it is possible given the situation with the lack of foreign currency in T&T.

He said we have a mini crisis with the insufficiency of foreign exchange available to businesses and private citizens, and solutions must be found immediately.

He said he believes the solution is injecting additional foreign exchange into the system as an immediate albeit temporary solution to the problem.

He said while he believed that his solution is risky he feels that leaving things as critical they are is even riskier.

Tewarie articulated that at this time it is best to focus on the critical situation and hope that short term solutions would buy time for long term strategies.
