Stepfather ordered to stay away from boy, 16

A 34-year-old man was ordered to have no contact with his stepson after appearing before a Chaguanas Magistrate today charged with one count of cruelty to a child.

The accused, who resides in Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas, appeared before Magistrate Adrian Darmanie and was granted $150,000 bail.
He will reappear before the court on April 13th, 2021.

According to the alleged victim, a 16-year-old boy, he was physically assaulted by his stepfather on several occasions.

In May 2019, the boy made a report to police and W/Cpl (Ag.) Kassie of the Central Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) initiated an investigation which led to arrest of the suspect on
March 2nd, 2021.

He was subsequently charged with one count of cruelty to a child.
Investigations were supported by ASP (Ag.) Sookdeo and W/Insp (Ag.) Haynes.
