South and Central Digicel customers to receive free minutes and data as service finally restored

Following an outage that affected its customers in south and central Trinidad, Digicel has announced that services have been restored.

The outage was caused by a significant fibre break on Tuesday.

Digicel said that emergency repair teams worked into the wee hours of Wednesday morning splicing, replacing, and re-running new cables after the existing infrastructure was torn down by a towering vehicle crossing an intersection in central Trinidad.

The outage, which affected Digicel+ and Digicel mobile services, lasted several hours and led to the closure of several businesses across south and central Trinidad.

In a media release on Wednesday, Digicel says, “As a goodwill gesture to its mobile customers who purchased 1-Day Prepaid Plans but were unable to enjoy the full value of their plans because of the disruption, Digicel has given them a free 1-Day Plan.”

It continued, “Additionally, Digicel has given its longer duration Prepaid Plan buyers and its Consumer Postpaid customers 5GBs of free data until Jan 25th at 11:59 p.m. Consumer Postpaid Talk & Text customers received 50 free additional Anywhere minutes as part of this gesture.”

For Digicel+ customers affected, the company says they can also look out for something special coming their way, as the brand delivers on “its promise of transparency and providing the best network experience.”
