Sando Mayor tells vendors move is an opportunity to ply their trade without evading police

The Mayor of San Fernando, Robert Parris, has responded to a protest by High Street vendors on Wednesday.

The vendors called on the Mayor to reconsider a proposal to relocate them to Mucurapo Street.

However, in response to the protest, Mr Parris insisted that the move is part of an improvement plan for the city, with stalls already built and work to be done on the Mucurapo Street Market.

The Mayor said that it is an opportunity for vendors to ply their trade without having to evade police.

He added: “Certainly, persons sitting down in a drain with an umbrella over their heads cannot be the standard of vending in San Fernando. We have to raise the bar to a higher standard. We cannot run a city and have a city in chaos.”
