Shot 12 year old girl off life-support and stable

The family of  a 12-year-old who was shot on Wednesday night, breathed a collective sigh of relief when she was taken off life support on Thursday night and has been talking to both her parents  yesterday. The girl was shot in the abdomen and shoulder when a gunman opened fire on the vehicle in which she was an occupant, with her father. Police reports stated that at 8.10 p.m. on Wednesday the 12-year old girl was in the front passenger seat of her father’s Kia Sportage SUV,  as the two were driving into the yard of their home in Cascade Crescent, off Bagatelle Road, Diego Martin, when the father observed an armed man approaching the SUV from the driver’s side.

The gunman opened fire on the vehicle as the father attempted to drive off.  The father kept driving but heard his daughter crying out in pain and found that she was bleeding from two gunshot injuries. He attempted to drive to the St James Medical Complex but upon reaching the vicinity of the Crystal Stream traffic light, one of his tyres blew out and the SUV could not be driven any further.

Police and paramedics were called and officers from the Western Division responded and took the father and daughter to the St James Medical Complex. The child suffered injuries to her right shoulder, and two bullet fragments were lodged in her body. Police said 12 spent 9mm shells were found at the scene of the shooting, investigations are continuing.
