Scrap Iron Dealers Association Lobbies For Appropriate Laws & Regulations To Govern The Industry

The Trinidad and Tobago Scrap Iron Dealers Association (TTSIDA) continues to lobby for the Government and its respective agencies to institute the necessary Laws and Regulations to properly govern the Industry and encourage further development.

In a media release today, the Association highlighted statement made by Minister of Trade and Industry, Paula Gopee-Scoon, at a recent TTMA Business Webinar, in which she said, “Export output in the Ferrous Waste and Scrap Industry increased by 47% from 2020 and by 20% when compared to 2019.”

It said it is grateful that the Minister has once again publicly recognized the role this industry plays in the Export trade, contributing significantly to the foreign exchange coming into Trinidad and Tobago.

The Association said it should also be noted that while many Industries have seen declines in recent years due to various factors the Scrap Metal Industry continues to thrive. It pointed out that, according to InvesTT, Scrap Metal (and Related) Industries is identified as one of the seven pillars of Growth Industries for the advancement and development of this country’s economy.
