“Robocop’s” son shot as three held during police exercise

Three men were held and a firearm and quantities of ammunition and cocaine seized by officers of the Central Division following a police-involved shooting incident in the Chaguanas district yesterday.

Officers of the Central Division Gang Unit were on patrol around 2:15 pm, on Thursday 5th October, 2023, when they observed a white Toyota Axio motor vehicle speeding along the Southern Main Road.

The officers followed the vehicle which came to a stop at Dass Branch Trace and announced their presence.

While the officers were interviewing the driver, it is alleged that he pointed a firearm at them.

The officers in keeping with the Use of Force Policy discharged several rounds in the direction of the vehicle which drove for a short distance before coming to a stop again.

The driver and two other male occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital for treatment.

One of the men was identified as Kerron Alexis, son of deceased Selwyn “Robo Cop” Alexis, who was well known to police.

The other occupants were identified as two 15-year-olds, of Enterprise.

A search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding a firearm loaded with an extended magazine containing a quantity of ammunition and a quantity of cocaine.

Meanwhile, in the North Eastern Division, officers of the Gang and Intelligence Unit conducted an exercise between 12:30 am and 2 am today in the Aranguez district.

During the exercise, officers observed a man standing alongside a white Mazda wagon motor vehicle parked along Johnny King Road.

On seeing the officers, the man ran off into some nearby bushes.

Checks of the vehicle revealed that a rear window was broken and the ignition had been tampered with.

Two black packets containing two kilogrammes of cocaine were also found and seized from the vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing into the matters.
