Prisoner involved in recent fracas at POS jail dies

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service has confirmed the death of a prisoner who was among the inmates involved in a violent fracas at the prison in Port of Spain on Tuesday.

In a release, they TT Prison Service reported that at around 12.20p.m. on Friday, murder accused Sherlon Brown, 26, died at the Port of Spain General Hospital.

According to the prison service, Brown’s next of kin was contacted by an assigned Welfare Officer.

Acting Commissioner of Prisons Deopersad Ramoutar, said the cause of death has not been determined, but it would be revealed by an autopsy.

He stated: “ A separate investigation by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service would be initiated”.

He said counseling services offered to officers will be extended to inmates and family of the deceased, if required.

In the statement, the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service extended condolences to the family and friends of Brown, as well as the inmate population.
