Primary school boy killed in drive-by shooting in Laventille

Two men have been detained in connection with the death of an 11-year-old boy in East Dry River, Port of Spain.

The incident took place on Mapp Trace, Laventille Road near Rudolph Charles Link Road around 4:50pm yesterday.

Reports say 39-year-old contractor Akhel Fairben was on his way from picking up his 15-year-old daughter from school.
He was driving a red Kia Rio.

When he arrived near the Rudolph Charles Link Road, a car overtook his and began spraying it with bullets,
Fairbin’s daughter got out of the car and ran away. She was not injured.

When the smoke cleared, Fairbin was found with gunshot injuries. Huggins, who
Ezekiel Huggins, a Standard 5 student of Eastern Boys’ Government Primary School, had just rode into the area on his bike and was standing at the corner when he got caught in the firing line.

They were taken to hospital where the boy died.

More than a dozen spent shells were reportedly found at the scene, including high-powered ammunition.

Police responded and held two suspects moments after in a silver Toyota NZE.
The men were held in Block 22, Laventille and taken in for questioning.
