Police rescue woman, son following domestic ordeal with husband

Police rescued a woman and her son who were allegedly assaulted by her husband last night.

The suspect, a police officer who is attached to a specialised section of the TTPS in Port-of-Spain, is assisting detectives with their investigation into reports of assault and common assault.

The lawman is currently at the Maloney Police Station.

According to the woman, at 11 pm on July 24th, an argument ensued at their Maloney home during which her husband allegedly pushed her against a wall and pulled out a firearm which he pointed at her neck.

Their son, police were told, also intervened in an attempt to stop the commotion, but was deterred by the suspect who allegedly also pointed the firearm at him.

Both the woman and her son found refuge at the Maloney Police Station and are expected to receive counselling and further interventions pending further investigation into the matter.

Sergeant Singh, of the Arouca Police Station, is leading enquiries into the incident. The Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU) is also working with the investigator.
