PNM  Tobago Council internal elections will take place on April 27th and 28th 2024

As the political environment heats up in readiness for a general election in 2025, a date has been set for the  People’s National Movement’s Tobago Council internal election. The PNM  Tobago Council internal elections will take place on April 27 and 28 for all positions on its executive.

In a release yesterday, the PNM  said nomination day will be on Wednesday April 3. In contention are twelve positions, including assistant general secretary, treasurer and public relations officer. There are also five other positions, inclusive of the political leader (Tobago), chairman, vice chairman and lady vice chairman, will not be contested.

Ancil Dennis will remain head of the executive even after the election. Dennis was elected political leader in April 2022, after several members of the executive, including the then-political leader Tracy Davidson-Celestine resigned after the party was dealt a 14-1 trashing against the then Progressive Democratic Patriots in the 2021 THA election. Since then THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine launched the Tobago Peoples Party (TPP).

The PNM constitution states that there are some positions elected every four years and others that are elected every two years. The last internal election was hosted in March 2022 and so elections for these 12 positions are now due.
