PM’s opinion on Gary counts says former Nat’l Security official

Former Director of the National Operations Centre, Garvin Heerah has suggested that Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley may have been justified in his decision to write the Police Service Commission to express his lack of confidence in Police Commissioner Gary Griffith.

Experts have been divided over Dr Rowley’s actions with suggesting that it constitutes interference and violates the constitution and the “separation of powers” principle.

However, Mr Heerah reminded persons that the Prime Minister also sits as the Head of the National Security Council and as such his opinion on the Police Commissioner’s performance carries some weight.

Mr Heerah added that while the process may have been flawed, the reality is that there is no escaping the involvement of politicians in the Police Service.
