PCA says it’s still not being called in a timely manner at the scene of police involved shootings

The PCA says that while it is doing what it can to work as efficiently as possible there are still issues that make conducting its duties difficult.

Police Complaints Authority Head David West told the Power Breakfast Show this morning that one of those issues surrounds the PCA’s timely presence at the crime scene when there is a police involved shooting.

He said that there is a practice of calling the PCA to investigate a crime scene days after the crime has been committed, sometimes as much as four days later if at all.

He said this leaves too much time for contamination of the crime scene to set in.

He stated that details that would be necessary to carry out its duties effectively are lost.

West noted that this is not a new issue and one that has been raised in the past however he said that the situation still persists.

He said however that information available to the PCA is still effective.
