Paria diving tragedy: Rescuers believed mission was too risky

None of the external rescue parties who gathered for the Paria pipeline rescue mission were willing to enter the pipe as they all believed it was too risky.

]Speaking yesterday during proceedings of the Commission of Enquiry into the tragic incident, Michael Wei of the Incident Command Team said a risk assessment was done to determine the exact condition of the pipeline and when it would be safe for divers to go in.

However, following the assessment, he said Paria was unable to persuade any of the rescue parties who responded to enter the pipe as they all believed it was too risky a job to undertake.
