Opposition raises concern about decline in oil and gas

The Opposition raised concern in the parliament about a decline in oil and gas production.

Member of Parliament for Pointe-a-Pierre, David Lee, contributing to the Budget Debate in the House of Representatives today, said revenue from the energy sector continues to be a key source of income for the country.

However, MP David Lee said for the ninth straight time there has been a contraction in the energy sector.

He said the latest figure given by the government was 0.3 percent.

MP Lee quoted from the Ministry of energy’s bulletin figures relating to wells drilled claiming there was a decline in this area from 77 to 42, growth in the sector declined and there was a drop in oil production with the establishment of Heritage Petroleum.
