Opposition MP Calls For Better Enforcement Of Laws To Protect Women And Children

One Opposition Member of Parliament has highlighted the need for better enforcement of laws to help protect women, girls and children.

It was a point raised by MP for Chaguanas West, Dinesh Rambally while contributing to debate in the House of Representatives on Friday on the private motion “No confidence in the Minister of National Security.

MP Rambally quoted data available from the Police on the number of women murdered for the period 2017 to present as he sought to reinforce his point.

He quoted information researched locally by one criminologist on the subject and the need for meaningful changes, and the implementation of better laws and policies to address the situation.

MP Rambally dismissed claims the Opposition has been bent on consistently resisting legislation brought by the government claiming several pieces of laws have received  the backing of the United National Congress in the past .
