Off duty TTPS shoots security guard over money squabble

A TTPS officer who was off-duty shot and wounded a security guard during an alleged altercation over money in Arima.

The 39-year-old constable of Paradise East, Tacarigua, attached to the Arima Court Staff, was off duty and liming at Classy Bar, O’Meara Road, Arima around 4:25 pm when the 36-year-old victim of Oropune Gardens, Piarco, who is employed as a guard at the club, allegedly approached the officer over the money matter and the two began arguing.

During  the argument, a scuffle ensued and the guard punched the officer several times in the face. The  officer responded when he use his licensed firearm to shoot the guard once in the chest.

The security guard was taken to the Arima Health Facility and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he was said to be resting in a stable condition.
A report was made to the Arima police station and investigations are ongoing.
