Nursing Assoc. President says the Government is at fault for the lack of locally trained ICU nurses

Head of Nursing Association, Idi Stewart, says the Government has to shoulder some blame regarding the lack of Trinidadian trained ICU nurses.

Additionally, he is questioning the Government’s decision to hire what he claims is as many as 20 Cuban ICU nurses when there are no patients in ICU.

While acknowledging that the country is preparing for a second wave of infections, Mr Stewart questioned if that many foreign nurses were necessary, particularly as infections seemed to be on the decline and recoveries on the rise.

He added that he is also concerned that local nurses are currently on month to month contracts while sources tell him that the Cuban nurses have been offered longer term contracts.
