NCRHA Reports Benefits From Grow Your Own Food Project

Reports of positive results coming out of the  “Grow Your Own Food” project at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.

The North Central Regional Health Authority says this project has yielded increased exercise, improved diet, time in nature, social connection, and a reduction in stress and anxiety amongst staff members.

Project change agent, Sita Maharaj, Administrative Assistant, Veterinary Hospital stated, “This project commenced in 2021 with a few plantain suckers and branched into approximately one hundred (100) plantain trees; and other fruits such as cherries, rambutan, tangelo, carambola, mangoes, guava and soursop. Other trees planted were avocados, coconut, breadfruit, limes, lemons and even dasheen leaves.”
