Motorists are being urged to refrain from using the North Coast Road

Motorists are being urged to refrain from using the North Coast Road. Access has been partly restored. The Ministry of Works and Transport, in a news release yesterday evening, said, “An initial assessment by the ministry’s Highways Division has determined that the area still poses a significant threat to the safety of the travelling public. In light of this, motorists and residents are strongly advised to avoid the area, if possible, until a comprehensive evaluation is conducted.”

This new update comes after Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan conducted a visit to the hill slide location along the North Coast Road near the first lookout.  The landslide prevented the flow of traffic along the North Coast Road on Saturday night, inconveniencing motorists for several hours.

The landslide was reported around 8.40 p.m. on Saturday about 1.5 km from the Maracas lookout, preventing travellers from entering or leaving the community via that route.

The police were notified and officials from the Ministry of Works and Transport’s Highways Division, the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation, the T&T Fire Service, and the T&T Regiment, all responded.

Crews worked throughout the night to restore connectivity.
