Mayor calls for new equipment for Arima Fire Station after brother’s home burns

The home of the brother of Arima Mayor Balliram Maharaj was destroyed by fire on Friday morning.

However, Mayor Maharaj believes his brother’s house could have been saved if the fire officers had better quality equipment.

Maharaj commended the quick response of the fire officers and was thankful no one was hurt, but he was not impressed with the equipment used to fight the fire at the home.

He is now calling for new equipment to be allocated to the Arima Fire Station, as he said: “Every single hose had leaks. They only had 400 gallons of water which could have saved my brother’s house.
“They didn’t even have an axe to break the glass.

“I am telling you, I want to say it loud and clear that I’m going to send a list. I’m going to call the fire brigade and I’d like to get that before the end of the month.

“I don’t want it to happen again.”
