Items confiscated from drone sighted over POS Prison

Officers at the Port of Spain prison were able to confiscate items on a drone, which was seen hovering over the Port of Spain Prison on Sunday morning.

In a release, the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service refers to a video recording of a drone being piloted over the Port of Spain Prison on Sunday March 24, 2024, at around 8.45 am, and advises that the package was dropped within the prison walls and subsequently confiscated by the diligent and alert officers.

In addressing the incident, Commissioner of Prisons (Ag.), Mr. Deopersad Ramoutar has confirmed the discovery of a package containing 2.5 grams of plant-like material by officers. In noting his concern over the regular drone incidents, he stated that they continue to be a challenge, not only for the Prison Service, but for all security agencies. He indicated that in addition to regular searches and patrols, other counter-measures (which cannot be revealed) have been implemented.
These counter-measures have proven to be successful as the drone drops do not meet the intended targets.

Commissioner Ramoutar has commended the Superintendent and officers at the Port of Spain Prison on doing an excellent job at managing the security at the institution. He has also extended his gratitude to the other security and law enforcement agencies for working alongside and supporting the Prison Service.

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service said it remains steadfast in its commitment to maintain security and hereby cautions members of the public against utilizing drones in the vicinities of the nation’s prisons.
