Investigators awaiting autopsy results to determine how 88-year-old woman died

Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy, scheduled for some time this week, to know how to proceed with their investigations into the death of an 88-year-old bedridden woman from Gasparillo.

Evelyn Piper of Chariah Street, was found by her 97-year-old husband Dennis Piper, dead on a bed at her home on Tuesday.

Her face was discoloured and the jaw appeared to be partially burnt.

Her caretaker Nicole John, said she and Piper’s niece took care of her every day and when they left her around 5 pm on Monday, she was in good spirits and her face appeared normal.

The woman had no children and had a speech impediment.

Her body no marks of violence and so far foul play has been ruled out.

Gasparillo police are investigating.
