President of the Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association Idi Stuart says there has only been a slight increase in respiratory cases at public health institutions.
Speaking with News Power Now this morning, Stuart said that while there was an increase in persons being admitted to health institutions with Covid like symptoms, the increase is more than manageable.
He gave the update after recent comments by Dr Tim Gopeesingh.
The Former Education Minister called on Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh to come forward and address several reports from health sector workers and the wider population of a noticeable increase in citizens being hospitalized, and even dying, due to COVID-19 and other respiratory infections at the nation’s public hospitals and health centres.
However Stuart told our newsroom that hospital wards were not in any way overwhelmed with Covid cases or other respiratory concerns and while he did not have statistics at hand, he assured the numbers were quite small.
Stuart said that hospital admissions after Christmas and Carnival are nothing new as it’s usually the pattern after these periods.
He revealed however that there is a concern that the shortage of nursing staff would cause significant delays for patients waiting in the accident and emergency departments.
