National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds says he is not sure that the procedures in place to ensure FUL holders and gun dealers meet safety requirements are being consistently adhered to.
He gave the admission during yesterday’s Joint Select Committee on National Security.
Vice Chairman of the Committee, Independent Senator, Dr Paul Richards, asked whether the minister believed that the monitoring and mechanisms in place for persons with FULs are sufficient or if those mechanisms need to be reviewed and strengthened.
Minister Hinds responded by outlining several of the measures currently in place.

However he added that while the measures also include FUL holders having their licence audited annually, he is unsure these are consistently adhered to.
