Galbaransingh passes away

Businessman Ishwar Galbaransingh has died.

His wife Cheryl stated in a message to friends and family: “I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of my beloved husband, Ish Galbaransingh who passed away peacefully today (Monday), after a four-year fight with cancer. You all know him as a fighter but the battle ended today.”

Galbaransingh was charged in 2005 in relation to a corruption matter pertaining to the construction of the Piarco International Airport.

Former prime minister Basdeo Panday and his wife were accused of receiving £25,000 from Carlos John and Galbaransingh in 1998 as an inducement or reward in relation to the Piarco Airport project.

Galbaransingh told media last year that the Piarco corruption cases destroyed his family’s lives.
He said he expected Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard, SC, to discontinue the three remaining corruption cases related to the Piarco International Airport.
