Fire guts Castara home – 10 left homeless

Christmas has been ruined for a family of ten after fire destroyed their Castara, Tobago home on Christmas Eve.

The T&T Fire Service reported that the fire started just before noon at a house along the Castara Road, owned by Gloria George.

Kamion George, speaking with GML, said this was a “double tragedy” for them as his sister Anita had to be rushed to hospital, after she fainted on seeing their house being destroyed by fire.

His sister, who lives in the Castara Housing Scheme, had similarly lost her house in a fire only three weeks ago and had moved into the family’s home with her children.

Fire officials said the structure was 96 percent destroyed by the time they arrived on the scene.

The approximate value of the home is about $1.1 million .

Investigations will be continuing into the cause of the fire.
