Early reports predict massive win for ‘Star Team’ in UNC NATEX elections

The long awaited and keenly contested United National Congress (UNC) NATEX elections have completed the voting process and now the membership and the country awaits the official results which experts say should be released by this Wednesday. From early reports however the ‘Star Team’ endorsed by political leader of the United National Congress Kamla Persad-Bissessar secured a massive lead in the internal elections.
A total of 17 Natex positions were contested, with Rushton Paray’s United Patriots and a lone independent candidate in Robert Amar contesting the position of Deputy political leader .The election for the post of political leader is due next year.

The counting of ballot papers was under way at 75 polling stations, and after that the ballot boxes would be locked and delivered to the UNC’s Chaguanas headquarters. The UNC internal election is in keeping with the party’s constitution, as the term of this current Natex is due to expire on June 26.
