Businessman relives “fake police” incident

The businessman who was robbed during a recent incident involving bandits dressed as police officers is raising concerns over the police’s slow response in the matter.

Rajendra May’s home was robbed by men who showed up at his house in a civilian vehicle dressed as police officers.

As they attempted to force their way into his home, his daughter called him and informed him of what was happening.

May’s wife and son in law were tied up while his daughter was forced to help the bandits collect their loot.

The bandits’ escape plans were scuppered when the businessman ordered one of his employees to block the street with a truck.

The suspects were forced to abandon the car they arrived with and were later captured on video stealing another getaway car.

Speaking on Power 102 Digital, May criticised the police response noting that both the 999 service and the Police station which was notified, failed to respond in a timely manner.

He claimed that the police station is minutes away from his home yet officers took considerably longer to respond to the call.

He also raised questions over the pace of the investigation into the matter.

May pointed out that the robbery took place on Saturday and the police are yet to confirm whether the assailants were actual police officers or fake officers.
