A family of four is now homeless after fire destroyed their home in Penal this morning.
Around 2:45am, 45-year-old Anil Sundar was awoken by a loud explosion at his Seebalack Trace, Rochard Road home.
Upon investigation, he saw smoke coming from an unoccupied bedroom and alerted his wife, 12-year-old daughter and 75-year-old father.
They all made it out of the house before the entire structure became engulfed in flames.
Officers of the Penal and Siparia Fire Stations responded and extinguished the flames.
However, the entire house was destroyed.
Losses are estimated at over $1 million.
Investigators are continuing.
