Differently Abled Students Graduate From Self Defence Camp

Twenty-three students from three special needs schools in Tobago graduated in their skills and abilities recently, after two weeks of martial arts and self-defence training from instructors of the Trinidad and Tobago Budokan Karate School.

Students from TechVoc, Happy Haven School, and the Tobago School for the Deaf and Language Impaired all participated in the camp.

The self–defence camp was an initiative of the Gender Affairs Unit of the Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection and the United Nations Spotlight Initiative aimed to empower persons with disabilities.

The students had the opportunity to put on display all that was learnt, under the supervision of Chief Instructor Marcus Ruiz.

Certificates of Participation were distributed to all students, and without a doubt, they walked away more confident, and more empowered in their abilities.
